As our first 24 hours as Abby’s new parents is starting to come to a close, I wanted to update you all on how the first night and day have gone. I a word, I can describe it all as “wonderful”!

On our way home from Medfield, Abby enjoyed the ride on Faith’s lap. She is clearly comfortable riding in the truck and was very alert and observant of her surroundings. She let us know she had a voice when she barked at some cows in a pasture while we were stopped at a light.

Overall, I would describe her demeanor as energetic, very happy and extremely comfortable. She immediately settled in as though she had lived here for years. She quickly learned where the water dish was, found many toys to her liking (especially tennis balls) was very happy and at home in her crate and ate well for her first meal. We all slept well for the most part. Abby cried a little bit when we first went to bed but went right to sleep after about 10 minutes of me laying on the floor next to the crate. We went to bed around 11pm and Abby slept till 5am when she started to cry to go out. So we went out to do our biz and the family slept on till around 8:30am. She has obviously been well crate trained (thank you, Nancy!) and is clearly really smart! After breakfast we took Abby and her new sister Sierra down to our lower yard area where they were able to run and play to their hearts content, We were out for about 45 minutes, played with balls, ran all over the place, played in the remaining snow and explored. Although Sierra was initially leery of this little black and white ball of fuzz that just came into her life, the adjustment has been pretty smooth. They are still getting used to each other and Sierra is slowly starting to accept Abby. There has been no aggression from Sierra which, on the first day, we take as a really good sign.

This afternoon the four of us took our first family field trip to PetSmart. It gave them a chance to spend time together on neutral ground which really worked out well. They both met new dogs and new people and we even found Sierra being protective of Abby when a bigger dog would try to visit. All in all, everyone was on their best behavior and the experience was very positive!! While we were there we signed Abby up for a Puppy Training class which we’ll start next Wednesday evening.

Thank you to all of you for your hard work and dedication to saving sweet wonderful animals like Abby! She is unbelievably sweet and we are very blessed. Thank you!
