Whew what a ride!!  Huge learning curve for all of us!!!  Dwight was very nervous and shaky at first!  He was calm on the car ride home, we stopped at pet co to pick up a bottle of pet shampoo!

When we got home the first thing we did was have Dave walk him around the neighborhood.  He was very impressed on how Dwight stayed with him and he seemed to really enjoy the walk!  We gave him a bath and he did very well for two inexperienced dog bathers!  We quieted him down and introduced him to the crate.  He didn’t seem to like it he whined a lot :-( … I think he is getting used to it now.  We gave him a second walk and we put the crate in our room and he slept through the night!!  No accidents so far!!!

Today was very busy for him.  He helped all the kids go off to school and he was tired… He fought it though!  I gave him 3 walks during the day and lots of kisses and belly rubs.  He likes to eat snow!!! I put him in the crate on and off through the day so he would get used to it.  We also had our first vet visit.  Clean bill of health.  He is 27 pounds and has no sign of the demodex.  She told me what to look for.  He got his last booster and I decided to give him the lyme series…  We have a lot of ticks up here!  Today he lost his two baby teeth and the vet said that was all the baby ones!!  The kids want to know if there is a dog tooth fairy?????

He is getting along with Ashes our cat.  She comes in and visits him.  (we section off the family room)  She is cautious and I think that will take a while!
We decided to change his name to Scout.  Our whole family is into girl scouts, boy scouts and both Dave and I are leaders… So we thought it was fitting that our new addition be  a Scout too.  Although we still call him Dwight too… oops….

Tonight he seems to have really calmed down.  Hardly any whining and he had a huge giant nap this afternoon.  He is also eating well today.  Two and 1/2 cups of dog food.  I give him water after each walk…  We also gave him dog treats.  (not sure on how much to give him on that…. All the training material we have been looking at is all food based)  Any help in this department would be useful to us.  The vet recommended we start training in about two weeks to let him settle in…..

He has been peeing and pooping well.  He does squat to pee.  I thought that was a ‘female’ thing :-) .  He seems to meet a lot of dogs fine except for one.  Our neighbor has Jasmine who is big an fluffy.  He barked at her and growled and I told him no and he started to shiver… He is nervous around her…..  He met a huge dog named achilles and was fine… So I am not sure what is going on there.
We are all very happy.  The kids are gentle with him and he seems to love all the attention.  No complaints about the kids playing the piano (no howling or anything :-) ).  I will write again to let you know how things are going!!
