LIBERTY - Rescue Dog Now a Registered Therapy Dog - Apirl 2012

Just some good news, Ms Liberty has passed her exam and is now a registered therapy dog! We will start some visits in June, she loves kids so we may look at some schools but I think we will start with nursing homes and a home for emotionally disturbed teen girls that's in my town.

Thanks for rescuing my terrific girl!

Georgie Girl

She is really smart and sweet, loves to cuddle and follows me everywhere! She’s getting a little fresh but not too bad (I think it’s just the puppy-side of her, and now that she’d more comfortable she’s getting into more things). She’s seems to be timid around men, so we’re trying to help her with that. She was terrified of my brother and my father – they love dogs so they were sad that she wouldn’t play with them!Overall, she is doing really well – she’s great in the car, at the vet and other-could-be-stressful places and with other dogs. She’s doing pretty well at housetraining too, knows to go to the door but doesn’t make a sound or come get us, so if we don’t catch her in time she just goes in front of the door. Seems like she is going to stay small, she’s at 14 pounds, and she’s weighed that much for at least a month, so I don’t foresee her getting too much bigger than that. Her new name is Fiora (Fi for short)!

Betsy

Betsy's done a great job settling in! The kids all love her and she seems to have readily accepted us as her family. She loves her walks--she jumps around like she's a puppy when she sees that leash!--and just hanging out in the sunshine with the kids. We plan on treating her to the groomers soon, her skin seems to be really dry and she needs her nails clipped, plus we just really want to spoil her! Thank you so very much for bringing Betsy into our lives.

Tizza

Tizzy AKA Tizza  is settling in very well.  Harley is loving his new companion and they are having lots of play time.  Tizzy is by far the cutest thing since dogs were created.  She has started going on walks now that I’ve gotten confident with a lightweight harness.  I’m not sure she was used to being walked with a leash.  She has learned to sit now and we’re working on her jumping when she first sees us.  She is definitely a lap dog in the evening and makes sure we give her the attention she wants.  She is not a barker except when she decides it’s time to get up in the morning or when she’s unhappy that it’s time to go to bed in her crate.  The evening ritual only lasts a very short time.  The 4-5AM wake up calls are another thing but we’re confident she’ll improve as time goes on and she’s sure she’s in her forever home.  One challenge…..the dog pees very infrequently.  Sounds funny I know, but since we’ve only had a male dog in the last several years, her “routine” is new to us.  She’s only had a couple of accidents in the house and I think that’s extremely good.  I think it’s great match for Jan, Bill, Harley and Tizzy.
